In this role, you’ll primarily focus on welding and supporting the assembly of sizable vessels (54 inches and larger). Your expertise will ensure we meet the highest standards of safety and craftsmanship. We’re looking for someone who knows their way around Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), GMAW, and GTAW techniques, can interpret complex plans, and isn’t afraid to get their hands dirty. If you can also fit into tanks and handle preparation work, that’s a big plus!

Required Skills:

  • Proficiency in Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) and GMAW (MIG) welding
  • Ability to pass 3G GMAW and 2G SMAW weld tests
  • Experience with GTAW (TIG) welding is a bonus
  • Strong understanding of weld symbols, plans, and technical drawings
  • Experience working on large vessels, pipes, or structural components
  • Mechanical aptitude and precision in tight tolerances
  • Committed to safety and following protocols
  • Capable of working independently or as part of a team

Nice to Have Skills:

  • Tank fitting experience for added versatility
  • Familiarity with welding of pipes and large structures
  • Basic grinding and welding preparation skills

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Previous experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment
  • At least 2+ years of practical welding experience on similar projects
  • Certifications in welding are a big advantage

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to work the daylight shift: 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM, Monday to Friday
  • Willingness to work occasional overtime, including Saturdays, based on project needs
  • Ability to maintain organized work areas and keep detailed work records

TOPS Staffing has partnered with a growing manufacturing and fabrication company to hire an experienced MIG / TIG Welder. This role is ideal for a skilled tradesperson who can work independently from prints, produce high-quality weldments, and maintain a strong focus on safety and precision.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Perform MIG and TIG welding on steel, aluminum, stainless steel, and related materials
  • Complete welding operations to drawing tolerances and customer specifications
  • Read, interpret, and work from detailed fabrication drawings, blueprints, and weld symbols
  • Fit and weld components independently with minimal supervision
  • Follow established welding procedures and required processes in accordance with AWS standards
  • Work from Bills of Material and shop or customer-supplied prints
  • Perform in-process inspections and measurements and accurately record data
  • Maintain welding equipment, fixtures, tooling, and workstations
  • Assist with general shop maintenance and fabrication tasks as assigned
  • Keep work areas clean, organized, and safe at all times
Skills & Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Vo-Tech or Technical School training preferred
  • 3–5 years of hands-on MIG and TIG welding experience
  • Strong knowledge of sheet metal fabrication and welding techniques
  • Experience with pipe or tube welding is preferred
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to read and understand complex mechanical drawings
  • Experience with additional fabrication processes is a plus

Position Overview

The Welder / Fitter will be responsible for the fabrication, fitting, and welding of piping systems, structural components, and mechanical assemblies used in an industrial water treatment facility. This position requires precision, the ability to read and interpret drawings, and the skill to perform high-quality welds in various positions and materials while working independently or as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities

Perform certified welding and fitting work on piping systems, structural steel, and mechanical components
Read and interpret mechanical drawings, isometrics, and fabrication sketches
Layout, cut, fit, tack, and weld components according to specifications
Fabricate complex piping and structural assemblies from drawings and field measurements
Perform out-of-position welding as required
