TOPS Staffing is currently looking to hire a few qualified machine operators for a growing client in Petersburg, VA.  

In this position you will be operating a state of the art Laser cutting table machine, to process plate steel moving through out facility.   As an operator you will be responsible for loading and unloading your machine, operation of the machine itself, making any adjustments needed from the HMI screen on the machine, and quality checks (measuring pieces and confirming holes or cut outs are accurate)

Ideally we are looking for individuals with prior fabrication or machine shop experience,  any sort of CNC background would be extremely helpful.

Currently hiring for both Afternoon and Overnight shfits!


Job Details:
All jobs will require 2 weeks of daylight shfit training 7am to 3:30pm monday to friday schedule


Shedule:
Afternoon shift - Monday to Friday
Night shift - Sunday to Thursday


Hours: 
Afternoon - 3pm to 11:30pm 
Night shift - 11pm to 7:30am

Schedule: Monday to Friday

Pay rate:  $21hr to $23  starting off 

Once hired on by client after 90 days with staffing agency the company offers an incentive program that pays out an average monthly bonus  beweeen $1500 to $2,000. This incentive really ads to your total yearly compensation, its a great bonus program that the company offers. 


Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Operation of laser cutting tables
  • Loading and unloading of machine - Use of overhead crane
  • Ability to read prints or shop drawings
  • Ability to measure accurately - Must be able to read a tape measure
  • Quality checks of pieces coming off your machine.
  • Use of machine interface to make edits to cutting programs
  • Use of overhead cranes or forklifts to load or unload pieces from machine
  • Deburring of parts using a grinder coming off table 

Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Prior experience in a machine shop or fabrication environment is preferred.
  • Must have prior machine operation experience in a manufacturing or similar environment.

Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods standing
  • Lifting of up to 40lbs on occasion
  • Have reliable transit to and from work.

Daily Tasks:

  • Empty trash cans and recycling containers, replace liners, and transport contents to the dumpster

  • Maintaining the parking lot and keeping it free of foreign debris. (Removal of pine needles, weed whacking, leaf removal, less than 5 hours a week)

  • Perform other duties as assigned when custodian is off.

  • Clean, dust and polish furniture and fixtures in offices and production areas.

Requirements:

  • Ability to use ladders and reach high surfaces safely

  • Awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions

  • Set up, operate, and monitor the BLM LT7 tube laser system, ensuring accurate and efficient production. (willing to train on operation of this machine) 
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and work orders with precision.
  • Load raw materials using a forklift, verify program parameters, and perform routine adjustments.
  • Conduct first-article inspections and ongoing quality checks throughout production runs.
  • Troubleshoot minor issues, perform scheduled maintenance, and communicate technical concerns to the maintenance team.
  • Maintain detailed production records and report any deviations or defects.
  • Assist with material handling, shop support, and collaborate with teams to improve operational efficiency.

Required Skills:
